I have fished (captain) offshore waters (outside 3 miles from nearest point of land, to about 40 miles from nearest land which is what our federal permit allows us.) for a number of years now and have seen how tides run at all times of year. I fish 40 miles southwest of the Bay of Fundy which has rights to the biggest tides in the world.

Although tides are impossible for an average fisherman to figure out, someone knows how to it, because I buy a tide chart every January and it has every tide for the year.
I've been reading articles on this site for about a year now and started paying attention to threads that mentioned tides, which coincidently had to do with elenin and nibiru. Lobster fishermen are effected by tides as we fish traps with rope to the surface which is connected to hard styrofoam buoys. The fisrt buouy is connected 30-60 feet down the mainline and the second is at the end. Tides run on roughly 6 1/4 hour cycles. If high tide is at 6am one morning it will be 7am the next morning. The hardest that tides effect us is around 2 hours after high tide (ebb) to an hour before low tide. During this time, on big tides, the atlantic ocean can rush away from Maine so fast that it pulls both of your buoys under and you cannot haul.
Now that I have briefly given you my credentials of what I know about tides, I would like to explain how it correlates with plantet X, elenin, etc. I will start by saying that yesterday we had some huge tides with some bad pull. Buoys that don't pull under during big tides were pulling under. March was as bad as it is now. The largest were spot on with the earthquakes in Japan.
What I also have to say is that this is nothing I have not seen before. I remember tides 10 years ago that seemed worse than these. The one thing that always seems to be constant in elenin/nibiru threads is that the object is supposedly in allignment with us, the sun, at least one of the planets, and sometimes the moon. Earth is always aligned with another planet AND the object. It is the alignment of the planets that causes any doom. Always has been.
I would have bought the elenin thing had tides progressively got worse. They aren't. Tides will be bad during the October doom too, but whoever made my tide chart predticted it first. As soon as I get my 2012 chart, I'll take over as doom predictor.

Beached whale found 800 metres ashore in Yorkshire
I don't want to be rude but!!!!
I worked here in the 80's so I know this area very well, this whale is stranded 800 metres from water! The only way it could have ended up here, more than half a mile from water is if Hancock threw it here or, the unfortunate whale grew legs and walked, seriously this whale is laying where water never comes, hence the grass!

Marine experts have been left baffled after a rare whale was found over 800 metres from the shore in the Humber Estuary, Skeffling, East Yorkshire.
The 33ft mammal is thought to have died after getting caught in shallow waters – rolling onto its own blowhole before getting swept inland by the tide. Experts are “95 percent sure” the whale is a female from the rare Sei species – only three of which have been found stranded on the British coast in the last twenty years.
“It is sad. It was in shallow water of about 4ft to 5.25ft, making contact with the bottom,” said Andy Gibson, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. “This was about 800m offshore. When it gets in that situation it rolls onto its side and it can cover its blowhole.”“Sometimes whales come into shallow water looking for food and get stuck,” added Kirsten Smith, North Seas manager at Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. “With the high tide the whale probably got carried up on to the salt marsh, got pushed back further in shore and then got stuck when the tide went out.” Earlier this month a fin whale washed up dead near Spurn Point, North East Lincolnshire after getting stranded at Immingham. Yorkshire Wildlife Trust has seen a rise in whale sightings over the last year but are unable to explain the increase in the North Sea.

ORBS ARE BACK!.... UFO OVER SAKURAJIMA ?
You can see the anomaly best in THREE cams at the same time .. 16 seconds shows all three at once ... top left cam and both bottom cams ... Clearly, a bright orb of some sort... UFO? a glint of sun in BOTH bottom cams at the same time? volcano lights?

I don't have a clue what's going on here, however, I have posted more videos of "ORB" activity over the Sakurajima Volcano since the earthquake a couple of weeks ago, the video below is incredible but what is even more incredible is and people have not joined the dots together yet, this same phenomenon is happening on the other side of the world right now in Costa Rica at the Turrialba Volcano. Trisagio has been sending The Big Wobble regular updates of strange "Orbs" and UFOs above and around the volcano there for weeks now, video and links below.

Unprecedented warm front has Holland in the grip of tropical weather, SOLAR ACTIVITY?

Although the weather over the last few days has been wonderful it is highly unusual, in fact September 2006 was the warmest September on record but on the 28th of that year the gage only hit 20deg.
I believe this tropical front is something to do with the powerful sunspots seen on our Sun, I have checked the Web for other stories and managed to find this which would suggest this unusual weather is global, at least the Northern Hemisphere!
I remember when I was a kid, living in Leeds UK, my neighbor had a telescope and whenever we had beautiful weather, which wasn't often, he would set up the telescope outside his front door and show me the Sun and the little black dots which he said was the cause of the wonderful weather, the little black dots of course where sunspots, since then I have grown up believing sunspots are responsible for wonderful weather, at least up here in The North.

Buckle Down, Solar Warnings Go Out!
STRONG SOLAR ACTIVITY: Having already unleashed two X-flares since Sept. 22nd, sunspot AR1302 appears ready for more. The active region has a complex "beta-gamma-delta" magnetic field that harbors energy for strong M- and X-class eruptions. Flares from AR1302 will become increasingly geoeffective as the sunspot turns toward Earth in the days ahead.
GEOMAGNETIC STORM: A strong-to-severe geomagnetic storm is in progress following the impact of a coronal mass ejection (CME) at approximately 12:15 UT on Sept. 26th. The Goddard Space Weather Lab reports a "strong compression of Earth's magnetosphere. Simulations indicate that solar wind plasma [has penetrated] close to geosynchronous orbit starting at 13:00UT." Geosynchronous satellites could therefore be directly exposed to solar wind plasma and magnetic fields. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for Northern and Southern Lights after nightfall. Ancient spaceship orbiting Saturn and the little balls found on Earth, 2.8 Billion years old!
Incredible new images from The Cassini Space Craft are casting further intrigue into the theory that the tiny moon Mimas is hollow! The probe measured temperature differences across the object's surface and produced a map that looks just like the 1980s Pac-Man video games icon. This tiny moon is thought to be an old space station abandoned or destroyed during an ancient war in our solar system, see link below.
Other staggering coincidences regarding Mimas are abound, many believe George Lucas modelled his Death Star on the small moon and the resemblance is uncanny, also small sculptures thought to be replica's of the tiny moon have been found on Earth but, get this, the sculptures are thought to be 2.8 billion years old! SAN LEON — An object falling from the sky could be to blame for a Saturday grass fire. “When the call came in to the dispatcher, the person said that something fell from the sky and started the fire,” Jeff Pittman, chief of the San Leon Fire Department, said. The chief said an investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the blaze at 18th Street and Broadway.
“It could be awhile before we figure out what happened,” he said. “It could be (today) because of the lighting.”
The call came in at 5:36 p.m. Saturday and the fire was under control by 7 p.m.
Along with San Leon, firefighters from Texas City, Dickinson, League City and Kemah responded to the call.Galveston County sheriff’s deputies and Galveston Area Emergency Medical Services personnel also were on the scene.
Pittman said about 60 acres of grass and brush burned.
After the fire was out, firefighters conducted a grid patrol using metal detectors to determine if something did fall from the sky, according assistant fire chief Scott Lyons.

Alcyone, brightest star of the Pleiades constellation magnitude 2.85, which according to MrCometwatch makes Jupiter 80 times brighter than Alcyone and 5 times brighter than Pleiades and Jupiter is around 900 million miles away as apposed to Pleiades, which is a staggering 43 million light years away! Widespread Power Outages Worldwide
A frightening report circulating in the Kremlin today prepared by the Federal Atomic Energy Agency (FAAE) states that “emergency notices” have gone out to all of Russia’s nuclear power plants warning them that a potential “blast” from our Sun could cause “massive power blackouts” and could even result in “spontaneous atomic explosions.”
Prompting this unprecedented warning was our Sun’s unleashing of a massive X1.9 solar flare from the behemoth Sunspot 1302 yesterday, and that is just days away from putting our Earth squarely in its sights, that this FAAE report is blaming for the near total blackout that hit the entire South American nation of Chile within minutes of this event occurring.
This FAAE report further warns that the blackout that occurred in Chile due to yesterday’s solar blast was forewarned about by a similar event that occurred earlier this month in the United States after their Southern California and Arizona regions were hit by a massive power blackout on 8 September.
Even more concerning to the FAAE about these solar blasts were their being connected by Russian atomic scientists to the nuclear explosion at a nuclear-waste facility in southern France that occurred on 12 September and a Michigan nuclear plant “cooling failure” that occurred on 16 September, both of which were quickly followed by at least six more massive solar blasts occurring in less than 24 hours from 18 September until 19 September.
The FAAE also states in their report that the fall from low-space orbit of NASA’s UARS climate satellite yesterday can, likewise, be blamed on these solar blasts too, a position supported by US space scientists who recently discovered that 90 minutes after these solar blasts die down, they spring to life again producing an extra surge of extreme ultraviolet radiation, and which, according to NASA scientist Rachel Hock:

This Can't Be A Coincidence! Denver Airport Close Encounters Connection
First off, I ran across this on another forum, I hope it's okay to post the link at the bottom.
The classic movie, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, has a scene where we are sent a signal , it's a set of numbers. Those numbers are coordinates for the famous Devil's Tower, where of course our first contact with Aliens happens at the end....
The numbers are 104 44 30 40 36 10.
Let's turn those into coordinates- W104' 44' 30' N40' 36' 10' .
Now, plug those into Google Earth.
Denver International Airport. The movie came out in 1977. The airport was built 16 years later.

A colleague pointed out that what you're seeing is the Pleiades, and I should have known that, since they were in the HI-1B field of view a couple of weeks ago.
The stellar images are not, obviously, to size. There are both optical effects and some charge spreading (I believe).
I'm attaching a STEREO Ahead HI-1 movie that shows the comet. Turns out we _can_ see it in Behind HI-2 as well, but it's so faint you have a hard time convincing yourself; see a magnified version at:

Second big satellite set to resist re-entry burn-up
No one yet knows where UARS (Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite) will fall to earth. Although most of the craft's mass will be reduced to an incandescent plasma, some 532 kilograms of it in 26 pieces are forecast to survive – including a 150-kilogram instrument mounting.
NASA calculates a 1-in-3200 chance of UARS causing injury or damage. But at the end of October or beginning of November, ROSAT – a 2.4-tonne X-ray telescope built by the German aerospace lab DLR and launched by NASA in 1990 – will re-enter the atmosphere, presenting a 1 in 2000 chance of injury.
The higher risk stems from the requirements of imaging X-rays in space, says DLR spokesperson Andreas Schütz. The spacecraft's mirrors had to be heavily shielded from heat that could have wrecked its X-ray sensing operations during its eight-year working life. But this means those mirrors will be far more likely to survive a fiery re-entry.
On its ROSAT website, DLR estimates that "up to 30 individual debris items with a total mass of up to 1.6 tonnes might reach the surface of the Earth. The X-ray optical system, with its mirrors and a mechanical support structure made of carbon-fibre reinforced composite – or at least a part of it – could be the heaviest single component to reach the ground."
At the European Space Agency in Darmstadt, Germany, the head of the space debris office, Heiner Klinkrad, agrees that ROSAT's design means more of it will hit the surface. "This is indeed because ROSAT has a large mirror structure that survives high re-entry temperatures," he says.

MrCometwatch claims this current Solar Cycle, ( 24 ), boasts 6 X Class Solar Flairs this year alone!
We have not had an X Class Flair for over five years up to this year.

NASA official admits: Elenin has not disintegrated
Like many of you I've been a little concerned about Elenin. Some of the evidence being forwarded that she's being followed by a dark star is somewhat compelling. I have a wife and three red-headed kids, so I've got to think about protecting them -- if -- the theories are provable beyond a shadow of a doubt -- to me.

So our minds CAN be read: Magnetic scanner produces these actual images from inside people's brains
Scientists have created a revolutionary brain imaging process which allows them to 'see' moving images inside people's minds. As the test subjects think of a video, the researchers 'see' it on screen.
It's the most astonishing demonstration of 'mind reading' technology ever demonstrated.
The academics from the University of California, Berkeley, managed to decipher brain activity by measuring blood flow through the brain's visual cortex, and used this information to construct images of what they were 'thinking'.
They then converted this information into visual patterns after feeding it through a computer, in a process which scientists say 'opens a window into the movie of our minds'.
It is hoped the remarkable process could eventually be used to understand the minds of those who cannot communicate verbally, such as stroke victims and coma patients.

Giant squid carcasses invade Calif. Thousands on San Diego beaches earlier this week!
There are hundreds of squid carcasses washed up on beaches all over San Clemente and Oceanside.
While people walking on beaches might not be fond of stepping on the squid, or trying to dodge them, fisherman in Newport Beach couldn't be happier with their catch of the day.
"They're hauling in bagfuls of jumbo squid," reports KCBS correspondent Michele Gile.
One sports fishing expedition on Wednesday came back with 990 of the large creatures.
Dave Schmitt of Davey's Locker Sportsfishing describes the scene as "pure mayhem ... and they're just everywhere."
The squid, known as Humboldt squid, were last seen in Orange County two years ago. They are usually found in deeper waters, so it's rare for locals to encounter them - on sea or land.
Cleanup crews were working Thursday to remove the carcasses.
On Monday thousands of squid washed up on the beaches of San Diego and a month ago thousands more died after reports of an earth tremor

The satellite’s orientation or configuration apparently has changed, and that is now slowing its descent. There is a low probability any debris that survives re-entry will land in the United States, but the possibility cannot be discounted because of this changing rate of descent. It is still too early to predict the time and location of re-entry with any certainty, but predictions will become more refined in the next 12 to 18 hours.

Picture of Elenin "Breaking Up": Where Are the Star Trails?

Ever since mankind was invented, when there is a new comet the same thing happens: gloom and doom and the end of the world is very freaking nigh! Just so you know where I'm coming from, I don't really believe Elenin is all that.
However, this article from space.com has me a bit baffled, and I thought the ATS community would help me shine some light on the anomaly in this picture:
The picture on the left was taken August 19th, the one on the right September 6th. The article suggests that this may show that Elenin is breaking up because it is now much dimmer than it was when it was farther from the sun. However, one thing struck me immediately about the more recent picture:
"Why aren't there any star trails in the picture?" You'd think the photographer would've taken a picture with the same exposure time as the first one.
About the star trails: The older picture was taken with a longer exposure, that's why the stars are elongated because the camera is tracking Elenin. The newer one, that supposedly shows Elenin being dimmer, was taken with a shorter exposure, which would, of course, make Elenin appear dimmer, but it also doesn't leave enough time for star trails to appear.
It kind of boggles me that space.com would actually post these two pics as possible "proof" of the comet breaking up when even an amateur like me saw the absence of star trails in about 3 seconds! Could it be some conspiracy to try to fool the "average person" that hasn't had experience enough to know the difference between the two pictures? A cover up could be one explanation to allay panic, but there could be other explanations less nefarious, I suppose.
Anyway, if this has already been explained or debunked, my apologies!

Could it be some conspiracy to try to fool the "average person" that hasn't had experience enough to know the difference between the two pictures? A cover up could be one explanation to allay panic, but there could be other explanations less nefarious, I suppose.

A very inconvenient truth: Al Gore caught lying again!
It was called '24 Hours of Reality', but Al Gore's latest climate change campaign appears to have come up against a very inconvenient truth.
The former vice president had said that his day-long online marathon of talks on the environment on Thursday had been watched by as many as 8.6million people.
But it has now been claimed that the number of people logging on for the highly publicised presentations that were streamed around the world was closer to 17,000 people.
Despite Gore successfully getting speakers including Renee Zellweger to make appearances, website 'Watts Up With That?' has revealed that internet viewing figures were way below those reported by Gore.
Using web traffic information to estimate visitor numbers, the website said that even 17,000 viewers was possibly generous.

SOME PARTS OF UARS SATELLITE DEBRIS MIGHT FALL ON ITALY

As you can clearly see, if the satellite where to crash land in Italy the flight path would bring UARS over Russia and China, any chance of this thing landing in the sea, as you can see is improbable to say the least!
If it misses Italy it could crash land in the Northern Mediterranean but it could also crash in Southern Spain or Morroco, we shall see!
Mass Amounts of Squid Wash Ashore in San Diego ( Earth tremor again? )

I was walking with my roommate on the beach in San Diego and suddenly a small wave washed up hundreds of squid. No one seems to know why this happened. Some of the onlookers tried throwing them back in the water but they kept washing back up.

Tequila-fuelled young women strike crude poses that will (or should) mortify them in the sober light of day. More worryingly, one or two are unconscious on the pavement, dangerously vulnerable in their pathetic state.
For, in the eyes of the experts and professionals gathered at the International Festival of Photojournalism in the French city of Perpignan, this portfolio of work —entitled Cardiff After Dark —was a beautifully crafted and realistic portrait of life in modern Britain.
The next time we scoff at, say, the chauvinism of the French or the hysterics of the Italians, it is worth remembering the sort of stereotypes which are applied to Britain.
Polish photographer Maciej Dakowicz, 34, has been capturing nocturnal scenes in Cardiff —where he was previously a student —for the past five years.
The results speak for themselves.
Dakowicz admits that he would be unable to produce images like this in his home town of Bialystok in Poland.

The disintegration of UARS is expected to produce a fireball that could be visible even in broad daylight. Not all of the spacecraft will burn up in the atmosphere, however; according to a NASA risk assessment, as many as 26 potentially hazardous pieces of debris could be scattered along a ground track some 500 miles long. The same report puts the odds of a human casualty at 1 in 3200.

Moon to have no-fly zones by month end .......( UPDATE ).
No-fly zones will come into effect on the moon for the very first time by the end of this month! Why, even buffer zones that spacecraft may have to avoid will come into existence. The reason: avoiding any spraying of rocket exhaust or dust onto certain historical sites and artefacts on the moon.
The historical sites are of course the Apollo landing sites and artefacts present on the moon. And the “recommendations” are for preserving and protecting these historical sites. There are currently more than three dozen historical sites that preserve the more than four-decade-old remains.
“Apollo 11 and 17 sites [will] remain off-limits, with ground-travel buffers of 75 metres and 225 metres from each respective lunar lander,” states the July 20 guidelines of NASA. Science journal had obtained the guidelines.
No legal binding
According to Science, by the end of this month NASA is expected to come up with a set of “recommendations” for spacecraft and astronauts visiting the “U.S. government property on the moon.” Of course, these recommendations will not be legally binding as the 1967 Outer Space Treaty makes it clear that the lunar surface has no owner.
Despite the lack of ownership, NASA is hopeful that other countries will respect the U.S. sentiments. Incidentally, the restriction list contains more than the historical sites. For instance, the list includes studying discarded food and abandoned astronaut faeces.

NASA Announces 'Forbidden Zones'...On Moon!
One of the many structures that just 'happens' to be in the No-Fly Zone.Feeling the pressure of mounting investigations launched by citizen activists concerning alien structures and artifacts on the Moon and Mars, the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration has made a bold and incredible move: NASA has announced No-Fly Zones on the Moon.
Although the space agency claims the purpose of the No-Fly Zones are to preserve and protect the historic landing sites of the Apollo astronauts, some question why the zones happen to include regions where heavy attention has been focused—areas where purported alien technology is lying scattered across the lunar soil.
According to official archives more than three dozen Lunar historical sites exist. It may be more than coincidence that many of the strange anomalies and structures are near, or in the same region as, all the Apollo landing and early Lunar space probe sites like Surveyor.
Despite the pronouncement, international attorneys do not believe the space agency has the authority to enforce such a proclamation, nor claim any regions offbounds by nature of “U.S. government property on the moon.” They argue that the United Nations 1967 Outer Space Treaty takes precedence and that no nation can lay claim to any portion of the Moon.
Despite that, NASA is desperate other countries will abide by its announcement—after all, more than 40 years of cover-up is at stake as well as the reputation and future funding of the currently beleagured agency.

Lloyd's insurer sues Saudi Arabia for 'funding 9/11 attacks'
A Lloyd's insurance syndicate has begun a landmark legal case against Saudi Arabia, accusing the kingdom of indirectly funding al-Qa'ida and demanding the repayment of £136m it paid out to victims of the 9/11 attacks.
The Brighton-based Lloyd's 3500 syndicate, which paid $215m compensation to companies and individuals involved, alleges that the oil-rich Middle Eastern superpower bears primary responsibility for the atrocity because al-Qa'ida was supported by banks and charities acting as "agents and alter egos" for the Saudi state.
The detailed case, which names a number of prominent Saudi charities and banks as well as a leading member of the al-Saud royal family, will cause embarrassment to the Saudi government, which has long denied claims that Osama bin Laden's organisation received official financial and practical support from his native country.

The U.S. Is Unable To Account For 36k Pounds Of Weapons Grade Uranium And Plutonium.
The Government Accountability Office report says these 27 cooperation agreements, set up to facilitate cross border research, have no accountability and the U.S. has no way to enforce control.
Because there is no reporting process in place, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has been visiting nuclear storage sites overseas when permitted, but has not regularly visited countries with the greatest risk of proliferation.
From the visits conducted through 1994 to 2010 U.S. teams learned countries met international security guidelines only 50 percent of the time.
Trying to pin down the missing 36,000 pounds of material the NRC and the Department of Energy (DOE) have made inventory agreements with five U.S. partners, but the other 22 have refused.
The DOE has tried to bring back much of the material to the states, but aside from failing to definitively find it, the agency is limited by its own Global Threat Reduction Initiative which won't allow it.

Huge Defunct (UARS) Satellite Falling to Earth Faster Than Expected, NASA Says

NASA space junk experts have refined the forecast for the anticipated death plunge of a giant satellite, with the U.S. space agency now predicting the 6 1/2-ton climate probe will plummet to Earth around Sept. 23, a day earlier than previously reported.
The defunct bus-size spacecraft is NASA's Upper Atmospheric Research Satellite (UARS), which launched in 1991 and was shut down in 2005 after completing its mission. The satellite was expected to fall to Earth sometime this year, with experts initially pegging a weeks-long window between late September and early October, then narrowing it to the last week of this month.
Re-entry is expected Sept. 23, plus or minus a day. The re-entry of UARS is advancing because of a sharp increase in solar activity since the beginning of this week," NASA officials wrote in a status update today (Sept. 16). The projection is a day earlier than a previous forecast released by NASA yesterday.
NASA spokeswoman Beth Dickey confirmed with SPACE.com earlier today that the reason UARS is expected to fall early in its re-entry window is because of the sharp uptick in solar activity. Solar effects from the sun can create an extra drag on satellites in space because they can heat the Earth's atmosphere, causing it to expand, agency officials have said. Mysterious 'Booming Sounds' Heard Around World Perplex Scientists
Mysterious booming sounds are occasionally heard on the North Carolina coast, often powerful enough to rattle windows and doors. They cannot be explained by thunderstorms or any manmade sources — their source is a mystery.
Such dins are not unique to North Carolina or the modern age. People living near Seneca Lake in upstate New York have long known of similar booming sounds, which they called "Seneca guns." In coastal Belgium, they are known as "mistpouffers," or fog belches; in the Ganges delta and the Bay of Bengal, "Bansal guns;" in the Italian Apennines, "brontidi," or thunder-like; and by the Harami people of Shikoku, Japan, "yan."
"What's going on is an interesting challenge, whatever it might be," said seismologist David Hill, scientist emeritus at the U.S. Geological Survey office in Menlo Park, Calif.
A host of plausible explanations may now exist for these enigmas, including earthquakes, rock bursts, mud volcanoes, explosive venting of gas, storm-driven waves, tsunamis, meteors, distant thunder and so-called booming sands.
"It seems there is quite a range of processes in nature that might be responsible," Hill told OurAmazingPlanet.
"Earwitnesses" described sounds like booming cannons or falling stones accompanying small to moderate earthquakes in England from 1880 to 1916. In 1975, U.S. Geological Survey researchers managed to record both acoustic and seismic signals of an earthquake swarm in California, finding that three earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.0 to 2.8 produced sounds that began within 0.02 seconds of the arrival of seismic waves at the scientists' station. Similar results were seen with quakes in the French Pyrenees in 2004.
All in all, audible sounds from earthquakes might be perceived even when shaking is not, Hill suggested. For instance, while earthquakes are rare in coastal North Carolina, they are relatively common in the Charleston area of South Carolina, the site of the 1886 magnitude 7.6 Charleston quake, and the Catskill Mountains that Seneca Lake is located within do host low-level earthquake activity. Locals could be hearing an earthquake that is too small for them to feel.

In the Shadow of Saturn

Explanation: In the shadow of Saturn, unexpected wonders appear. The robotic Cassini spacecraft now orbiting Saturn drifted in giant planet's shadow for about 12 hours in 2006 and looked back toward the eclipsed Sun. Cassini saw a view unlike any other. First, the night side of Saturn is seen to be partly lit by light reflected from its own majestic ring system. Next, the rings themselves appear dark when silhouetted against Saturn, but quite bright when viewed away from Saturn, slightly scattering sunlight, in this exaggerated color image. Saturn's rings light up so much that new rings were discovered, although they are hard to see in the image. Seen in spectacular detail, however, is Saturn's E ring, the ring created by the newly discovered ice-fountains of the moon Enceladus and the outermost ring visible above. Far in the distance, at the left, just above the bright main rings, is the almost ignorable pale blue dot of Earth.
