OMG! HUGE PROMINENCE

OMG! HUGE PROMINENCE: One of the biggest prominences in years erupted from the sun's northwestern limb yesterday. The massive plasma-filled structure rose up and burst during a ~2 hour period around 0900 UT on April 13th. Observers in Europe had a great view:

Jo Dahlmans of Ulestraten, The Netherlands, took the picture using his Coronado Personal Solar Telescope. "The sight of this massive prominence making its way through space was just amazing," he says. "I'm glad I caught it."

  4. Yea, I hear ya, they must be up there chillin for a few, or tending other matters. Wouldn't it be a trip if the sphere's had some of the equatorial ridges seen with the old rocks? We need some more close ups. The Sun is a mystery, the surface currents etc, and scientists know little. It pulsates and 'breathes', and actaully varies in overall size by a quite a small exact amount. The planets of our solar system all fall in perfect place(in the nodes) of these occilations given off by the sun. Long live the Sun, later, peace, D
